Infineon XENSIV™ sensors are exceptionally precise thanks to industry-leading technologies. Our benchmark and innovative magnetic sensor portfolio is the perfect fit for various customer applications in automotive, industrial and consumer markets. We offer all magnetic sensor technologies with in-house production, thus our customers can choose between Hall sensors, AMR (Anisotropic Magneto Resistive), GMR (Giant Magneto Resistive) or TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistive) sensors in order to find their best-fit solution for their application. Infineon’s XENSIV™ magnetic sensors combine highest-accuracy with proven quality and more than 40 years of experience in sensing solutions.
Generally, magnetic sensors are able to detect magnetic fields and process this information. The outcome on the position, angle and strength (Hall-effect) or the direction (Magneto Resistive) of an applied magnetic field can be converted into specific output signals. . Our magnetic sensor portfolio comprises Hall switches, linear sensors, angle sensors, 3D Hall sensors, as well as magnetic speed sensors with their respective field of application.
Furthermore our portfolio comprises XENSIVTM current sensors which are high precision coreless sensors dedicated for any kind of industrial applications, such as industrial inverters and drives or battery management. Our well-established and robust monolithic Hall technology enables accurate and highly linear measurement of currents with a full scale up to 120 A. Negative effects, like saturation and hysteresis, commonly known from core based sensor techniques are not present in the Infineon open loop, core less sensors principle.

Magnetic position sensors subcategories
Infineon is the global leading semiconductor manufacturer offering all magnetic position sensor technologies with in-house production. Our portfolio comprises Hall sensors, AMR (Anisotropic Magneto Resistive), GMR (Giant Magneto Resistive) or the new TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistive) sensors. Infineon’s XENSIV™ magnetic position sensors combine highest-accuracy with proven quality for automotive, industrial and consumer applications.
Hall sensors can be used for proximity detection, linear movements, measuring the rotational speed and direction as well as the angular position of a magnetic field. Hall sensors are often used in industrial motor control applications such as BLDC (brushless DC motors) to initiate the motor commutation or major home appliances and power tools. With the smallest SOT-23 package of Infineon Hall sensors customers are able to reduce their applications´ system size and system costs.
Widely known are Infineon´s XENSIV™ 3D magnetic sensors which offer the opportunity to detect the movement of a magnetic field in all three dimensions, i.e. on the X, Y and Z axis. The field of application spans from joysticks, gear shifts to anti-tampering for E-meters as well as control elements like rotary knobs and indicators.
Magnetic angle sensors from Infineon offer best performance and highest quality for automotive and industrial applications. Typical field of usage is an implementation into steering angle applications, highest safety applications for motor commutation like wipers, pumps, drives and actuators. In addition the application portfolio also includes service robotics and industrial robotics. Due to the broad bandwith of angle sensor products Infineon is able to cover all automotive and industrial applications fulffiling highest quality & safety standards like for example ASIL-D compliance.
Our linear Hall sensors are the ideal choice for highly accurate angular and linear position detection and current measurement applications. The sensors measure the vertical component of a magnetic field and outputs a signal that is directly proportional to the magnetic field. Infineon´s programmable linear Hall sensors come with different interface options PWM, SENT or SPC.
Nowadays cars feature numerous safety, body and powertrain applications that rely on sensors. Clearly focused on future trends, our outstanding portfolio of sensor ICs for numerous safety-relevant automotive systems makes cars much safer. In Electric Power Steering (EPS), our magnetic angle sensors and linear Hall sensors are used to supporting ISO 26262-compliant systems, measure the steering angle and steering torque. The majority of our latest magnetic sensors are developed based on an ISO 26262-compliant development flow and are perfect for functional safety application up to ASIL level D. For the use of our sensors in functional safety application we support our customer with a complete set of documents to minimize the efforts. This means that they can be deployed directly in all safety-relevant applications.
Speed sensors, designed to measure speed in safety and powertrain applications
The Infineon magnetic speed sensors are dedicated for automotive applications such as speedometers, ABS, camshafts/crankshafts and automatic transmissions, moreover modern hybrid powertrains also rely on our XENSIVTM sensors. However the sensors can also be used in similar applications in the industrial sector. Our products use a ferromagnetic gear tooth or encoder structure to measure linear or rotational speed and position. Hall sensor measuring rotational speed with a gear tooth and a magnetic encoder wheel.
The majority of sensors also feature additional benefits such as integrated capacitors (C- types) for high EMC robustness and the highest levels of ESD protection.
Modern powertrain systems rely on magnetic speed sensors, along with automotive pressure sensors, to achieve the required CO2 targets and smart powertrain solutions. Infineon offers a broad variety of magnetic speed sensors for camshaft, crankshaft and transmission applications.
