Product Description

High-side switches are used to turn electrical loads ON and OFF by switching the positive (high-) side of the load supply. Additionally, smart high-side switches are designed with the ability to protect themselves and diagnose possible unintended system behavior.

The PROFET™ family is Infineon’s solution for power switch ICs. PROFET™ stands for PROtected MOSFET and gathers all high-side switches, including automotive qualified and products for industrial use. PROFET™ intelligent high-switches consist of DMOS power transistors and CMOS logic circuitry to form a device with integrated driver functionality, protection, and diagnostic features.

Infineon’s extensive portfolio of PROFET™ smart high-side power switches is clustered into a variety of product families that are supported for a wide range of applications. With state-of-the-art diagnostics and protection features, PROFET™ devices can switch loads in a wide current range including cost optimized solutions, for loads below 1 A (e.g. LED loads) up to loads of 40 A (e.g. PTC heater) using the newest low RDS(on) high current switches.

High-Side Switch Product Portfolio

Infineon’s PROFET™ protected high-side MOSFET power switches offer solutions for a wide range of automotive and industrial applications and are available as single and multi-channel switches. Our latest DMOS transistor technologies offer improved short circuit robustness and better performance as well as high voltage capability and optimized chip size.

All PROFET™ smart high-side power switch families offer protection against overload, overvoltage, short-circuit, excessive temperature, ground loss, power supply loss, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Additionally, the different PROFET™ high-side load switch families can protect against dynamic overvoltage such as load dump and inductive load turn-off depending on the application they were designed for (e.g. automotive, industrial, consumer, commercial, construction, and agricultural vehicles (CAV)).

PROFET™ includes several families:

PROFET™ +2 12V

PROFET™ +2 12V, our latest product family of smart high-side switches, offers protection, and an accurate current sense diagnostic. Designed for nominal load currents from 1 A to 32 A, it addresses a wide range of power distribution applications. The pin-to-pin compatible packages (TSDSO-14 and TSDSO-24) enable ultimate design flexibility and ensure a low power dissipation as well as space-saving on the PCB. PROFET™ +2 12V includes highly accurate current sensing (< 5%) for load monitoring, ISO 26262-ready documentation, and AEC-Q 100 Grade 1 as well as Grade 0 qualified products for high ambient temperature applications.

Power PROFET™

Power PROFET™ is our automotive qualified high cvurrent load switch from 20 A to 40 A. This integrated load switch family offers a high short circuit robustness, high energy capability as well as enhanced thermal capabilities thanks to its power packages (DPAK and D²PAK).

PROFET™ + 12V

PROFET™ + 12V family is characterized by its high short circuit robustness and drives currents from 0.5 A to 11 A. It withstands load dump voltages up to 42 V and offers current sense diagnosis. The whole PROFET™ + 12V high-side switch IC product family is pin-to-pin compatible within the family as well as with the PROFET™ + 24V family. PROFET™ + 12V is automotive qualified.

PROFET™ + 24V

PROFET™ + 24V are designed for higher voltage supply systems and harsh operation environments like trucks, buses, and construction & agricultural vehicles (CAV). The scalable family with 12 pin-to-pin compatible devices incl. an ISO 26262-compliant device offers comprehensive protection functions, very fast current sense diagnostic, an extended operating voltage range, and high short-circuit robustness. PROFET™ + 24V are automotive qualified.

Classic PROFET™ 12V

Classic PROFET™ 12V is an established and versatile family. With more than 25 years on the market, those power ICs have proven their technical advantages and benefits. Designed for currents from 0.5 A to 20 A, they provide high-energy capability. Additionally, some devices offer a low current limitation threshold. They also operate in an extended voltage range and offer 6 different packages in the family. Classic PROFET™ 12V are automotive qualified.

Classic PROFET™ 24V

Classic PROFET™ 24V is the variation of the Classic PROFET™ 12V, but designed specifically for 24V applications: commercial, agriculture, and transport vehicles, ABS, fuel injection, etc. In addition to the features and benefits of the 12 V family, those integrated load switches also offer a high clamping voltage (up to 75 V) and PWM capability. Available in 8 different packages, Classic PROFET™ 24V can drive up to 8 channels. Classic PROFET™ 24V is automotive qualified.

Industrial PROFET™

Industrial PROFET™ are designed for industrial applications. Due to their outstanding energy robustness, they are perfectly suitable for high-side relay drivers, as well as switching high inductance loads. Their main application areas include high-voltage applications (VBAT up to 58 V), high-speed PWM applications (up to 1 kHz), switching higher inductances smoothly, enabling switching of applications with long wiring or any other kind of inductive loads or applications with space constraints.

Applications

Infineon’s broad portfolio of PROFET™ smart high-side switches meet a wide variety of applications in automotive, commercial, construction, and agricultural vehicles (CAV), including electronic control units (ECU), seat control designs, and energy efficient LED lighting. Additionally, PROFET™ automotive high-side switches are automotive qualified and target applications like body control modules, transmission systems, heating applications, power distribution, or seat control modules. Our 24 V capable devices (Industrial PROFET™, Classic PROFET™, and PROFET™ + 24V) address various industrial applications such as industrial automation, programmable logic controllers (PLC), or solar/wind energy systems.
